Beauty & Hygeine

I've listed all the products and the ingredients you will need to making almost everything you need, except shampoo.  I offer individual and group classes for making these products.
Make your own Toothpaste
For years we've been told flouride is good for teeth, but there are reports saying flouride causes calcification of the pituitary gland/ a part of the brain, and it causes brain fog. It is also a waste product. Stores sell flouride free toothpast with essential oils, which cost more than regular toothpastes. You can make the following at home.
  • Dry tooth powder: aluminum free diatomaceous earth, bentonite clay baking soda, sea salt.
  • Toothpaste: all of the above plus coconut oil, and if you want essential oils like peppermint

Make your own Mouthwash
Filtered water and essential oil. Options: peppermint, spearmint, rosemary, tea tree
Make your own Deodorant
Commercial deodorants contain aluminum and parabens, which have been linked to memory loss and breast cancer.  The more natural deodorants sold in stores, never worked for me.  The best store bought and safer deodorant is the Thai Crystal, but what I've made at home works much better for me, meaning it keeps my BO away for longer than 24 hours and I sweat less too.
  • Deodorant spray:  apple cider vinegar and water in a small glass spray bottle.  Spray the armpit and then pat a little baking soda over it.
  • Deodorant cream:  Coconut oil, aluminum free baking soda, sea salt, optional essential oils

Make your own anti-bacterial hand and body wash and face wash.
Commercial Antibacterial Hand Soap and Hand Sanitizer Antibacterials are a bad idea.  Our bodies are covered in good/ beneficial bacteria as well as bad bacteria.  Antibacterials kill the good bacteria, which makes you more susceptible to bad bacteria and creates super bugs.
  • Castile Soap Face, Hand and Body Wash:  can be used alone or combined with organic oil and essential oils that kill bad bacteria and are good for the skine.  Example:  Combine castile soap, jojoba oil, aloe vera gel and an essential oil like tea tree/ lavender.  This is perfect as baby body wash too, without essential oils
  • Vinegar Hand Sanitizer:  Vinegar kills 99% of germs.  It is also safe on skin.  Use a 50:50 ratio of white vinegar and water and add essential oils that kill bacteria and are good for skin.  Examples:  lavender and tea tree.
Face and Body wash for dry skin and exzema
Blended oats and herbs (calendula, chamomile, lavendar) can be used as a cleanser that is excellent for dry skin and exzema.
  • As a facial cleanser, face mask and exfoliant :  I've been using this as a facial cleanser for 3 years and I'm still impressed with the results.  I have very dry skin and this never leaves my face feeling tight.
  • In the bathtub:  it's perfect as baby body wash, adult body wash, is recommended for dry, itchy skin, and eczema.

Clay
There are various types of clays that can be used in different ways.  Buy pure clays in powder form and blend with other products to make fresh, natural, preservative free products.  You can simply add enough water to make a paste, and use that as a mask or add milk, yogurt, honey, etc.
  • French Green Clay:  you can make a face mask to draw impurities out and oil.  You can put the clay on any area of your body to draw out toxins
  • Rasshoul Clay:  If you have dry skin, use rasshoul clay as a face mask.

Make your own Powder for body, baby butt, etc.
Johnson & Johnson just got sued by a woman who used their talcum powder for years.  She got ovarian cancer.  I've heard for years that talcum powder was toxic.

  • Dry Shampoo - clay and/ or arrowroot starch
  • Baby Butt Powder - clay and/ or arrowroot starch
  • Body Powder - clay, arrowroot starch, and aluminum free baking soda.  Optional Essential oils
  • Foot Powder - clay and aluminum free baking soda.  Optional essential oils

Make your own petroleum free vaseline, which is called balm
Vaseline contains gasoline production by-products (paraffin wax and oils). Vaseline is also called called petroleum jelly. It's been linked to breast cancer and tumor growth. Vaseline is used in many cosmetics. In Europe, vaseline is no longer allowed to be used in cosmetics. Chapstick and Vaporub also use gasoline by-products. Replace vaseline and vaporub with the following products
  • Body Balm: is made with beeswax or candelilla wax and organic oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, shea butter, etc.
  • Lip Balm: is made beeswax or candelilla wax, organic oils and can contain shea butter or cocoa butter, and essential oils.
  • Homemade Vaporub: Same recipe as body balm with essential oils eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, etc.

Make your own Lotions, Creams and Sugar Scrubs
Lotion is a complete rip off and it's toxic. The commercial lotions sold in stores is mostly water, a tiny bit of oil and preservatives, emulsifiers and synthetic scents that are toxic to us. Many creams on the market are also full of unnecessary chemicals, besides emulsifiers, preservatives, and synthetic scents. Also, never use mineral oil. Mineral oil dries the skin and is a petroleum by-product. Instead of using lotion use the following
  • Organic Unrefined Oils: After a shower apply oil to your wet skin and pat dry with a towel. There are many oils to choose from: olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, alomond oil, etc. You can use them alone or a combination of oils. You can add essential oils to for a nice scent and skin benefits. Using oils you can make facial oil, body oil, and hair conditioner
  • Sugar scrub: combine with oils with sugar and add essential oils (my favorite is peppermint & rosemary) to exfoliate your skin in the shower. After you rinse the sugar off, your skin will be moisturized. Pat your skin dry, don't rub, to keep the oil and water blend on your skin.
  • Whipped Body Butter: A blend of oils, essential oils, and body butters, such as shea butter makes a great moisturizer that can replace creams.

Make your own menstrual pads and tampons
Commercial pads are bad news for your body and the environment.  The owners of these companies have classified menstrual supplies as medical devices.  This gives them the legal right to keep their ingredients secret.  And the secrecy, allows them to use toxic chemicals we will never know about, they should also be paid for by health insurance if they are medical devices.  There is concern that the toxicity of pads and tampons are causing menstrual disorders like endometriosis, fibroids, and cancer.  Go on youtube to see a video of an always pad on fire, and an organic cotton pad on fire.
  • You can learn to make your own cloth pads using muslin or flannel cloth.  The filling used can be terry/ towel or socks.  I can teach you how to cut the cloth to make panty liners, regular pads, and long pads for night time.

Natural, Non Toxic Cleaning Products

Vinegar
I love using vinegar to disinfect, because it kills 99% of germs, but I hate the smell.  I dilute vinegar with water, make a 50:50 blend and add essential oils to make vinegar more tolerable.  You can also use lemon, lime or orange peels instead of essential oils.  Vinegar
  • replaces Windex to clean mirrors and windows.
  • replaces Disinfectants for kitchen countertops, bathroom countertops, the toilet bowl, door handles, walls, linoleum floors, and hardwood floors.  Do not use on tile floors.
  • Spot clean carpet and upholstered furniture
  • Vinegar is good for maintaining a clean and bright surfaces in the shower
  • Vinegar is also a great hair rinse.  After shampooing spray diluted vinegar on hair (can use apple cider vinegar) and you will be able to easily slip a comb through your hair.
Baking Soda
  • replaces soft scrub when combined with glycerine.
  • replaces drano when combined with vinegar.  Leave overnight before using water.
  • Combined with vinegar as a toilet bowl cleaner.
  • breaks up oil/ grease. Use in laundry to wash oil off sheets.
  • absorbs bad odors.  Use in the bathroom and sprinkle on your carpets before vacuuming.  You can add essential oils for a nice scent
Borax
  • add to laundry to as a booster/ whiten whites
  • use in shower to break up mold
Table Salt (the cheapest you can find)
  • Salt breaks up goopy mucousy film
  • Salt makes a great scrub.  Use it to replace Ajax/ Comet.
